I decided to listen to this mixtape mainly because I saw it was hosted by DJ Humility who happens to be one of Nigeria’s well known DJs and besides I started this blog to showcase new artistes. I have basically been through this mixtape a couple of times and even listened to it on shuffle to see if it shakes my opinion. Hip Hop has always been a dodgy craft for Nigerian artistes and very few do it well – check Terry Tha Rapman, M.I, Ice Prince, Gino, Modenin & Da Grin #RIPDAGRIN. I guess the main thing has mostly been the issue of American accents utilised by majority. It really makes a worthty artiste sound crap and uncomfortable on a track. That is the first gripe on this tape. Second gripe is this being a mixtape, the artiste has chosen some strong beats which do him no justice than highlight his sometimes weak flow. So why have I kept listening to this mixtape? Well, it simply was because of the flashes of brilliance this artiste displayed during the course of this mixtape albeit irregularly. You listen through it all and realise this dude does have some skills and makes you press on with the listening experience rather than change the record. He does rap cliche: clothes, money, cars and dissing imaginary rap competitors and he does it well when he is being good. Songs like Stay Fresh and Im Him are head nodders where he usually displays his brilliance whereas tracks such as The Random Song highlights his weakness as he shares tracks with arguably some of the best Nigerian hip hop artistes – Ice Prince, Loose Kaynon & Terry Tha Rapman- who instantly outshine him.
Hi Bizzle is an artiste with promising skills and this being his first mixtape shows there is room for improvement as he develops as an artiste which is why I proceeded to post this rather than consign it to the depths of my trash bin. So give this a couple of spins, sit back and relax.Feel free to share your thoughts on this mixtape.
