This tune has been out a minute but I had to post it because it was in my iTunes most played list. Nice straight rap tune with a catchy chorus. Featuring a good line up of Naij rappers. Cop this if you do not already have it by now. Oh, and it is produced by Ikon. You know that boy is tough on the boards.

It would be mad nice if they dropped visuals for this tho. Don’t care how old the tune is.

By now you have probably had a P Square stan call you shouting “You heard that P Square jam yet?“ – just before you say no- they say “Its tewww maddd” If not you are lucky you have no such friends. This is what I call a face value song. Don’t think too much about it else you end up resenting P Square for cranking out yet another face value song a la “do me” style. Face Value = Quick club banger, catchy, sweet, repetitive and repetitive. Now follow me and sing “see danger danger danger, wahala dey, see danger…” You catch the drift…Alright song to kick off their new album campaign. I expect the catchy “Ifunaya” type to come soon.

Artiste Watch: Introducing THE SEVEN STAR GENERAL PYPE

As we all know, reggae has always been a stable genre on the Nigerian music scene. From stars like Ras Kimono, Majek Fashek, etc reggae continues to thrive on the NIgerian music scene. Seeing as every major genre of music in Nigeria is experiencing massive evolution, its only right reggae gets its share. This exciting development could not come better than Majekodunmi Olayiwola Ibrahim or better known as Pype. You only have to go through some of his hot collaborations to actually know this guy packs fire. Before you wash him off as another “wannabe jamaican” as most folks are quick to do, please give listen to his collabos many of which I have posted on this blog to understand this is not one wannabe. His weight on M.I’s teaser is simply heavy. On Loose kaynon’s track its okay, again he lights up the track with his excellent delivery complimenting Loose’s excellent flow. The General Pype not only displays brilliance in making hit songs enjoyable but he also has substance. This is one star that should not be slept upon. Looking forward to his album. Bring The Buzz…Kel – The Investment out June 22 2009

Probably one of the most anticipated albums to be released this year, Kel’s debut album is one of great interest. This could be because she is one of the few femcees in Nigeria who is actually “visible visible” (emphasis on the second visible so you catch my drift) on the music scene or it could also be due to the amount of music firepower she and her tireless manager Osagie have managed to cram into her 19 track debut. With the backing of Capitol Hill Music both for production in the form of hot producer Tha Suspect who has handled production of majority of the album turning in about 12 songs and excellent video director Clarence Peters who directed her quirky video debut “Wa Waa Alright”, you would expect Kel to be content with the in-house power contribution. Instead she has opted to involve WFNB favorite producer Jesse Jagz to supply two tracks to her debut. Add to that a solid line up of feature artistes such as Durella, M.I, Shank, Jesse Jagz, YQ, Darey, Alaye, Ice Prince and you definitely understand why this debut is shaping up to be one hell of a low risk, high return Investment even Warren Buffet couldn’t shake a stick at.

Artiste Watch: Djinee – Overkillin'

Pronounced “Ge-nee“, another good vocalist cutting across the Nigerian music scene leaving a trail of well sung notes in his wake. Evidence, check out songs such as Lade featuring MI and produced by Don Baba, the indelibly sweet Safe by MI featuring Djinee on the vocal. On these tracks he has provided beautiful vocals on excellent beats never missing a drop. He has done the same on this track produced by magic fingers Jesse Jagz. Nice lyrics sung beautifully over banging beats. Job done. Enjoy.

Djinee Born and bred in Nigeria started music at home by partaking in the early morning ritual of listening to Fleetwood Mac, Smokie Robinson, Abba, Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Rogers, Don Williams and the likes. The Chief Priest being his father, was an avid music lover and Djinee went on to forge a career in music. His journey into the entertainment saw him go into classical Music as a tenor,in the early days. Rock and R n B took his interest not too long after. Not satisfied, he decided to delve into the electronic Media, first by running a pirate radio station in the town of Ogbomoso, before taking up a presenting job at the top of the line entertainment and lifestyle channel, SOUNDCITY. Here he put in 3yrs working as a Producer/Anchorman. During this time his love for music never waned as he continued to push for recognition commercially in music. During this quest, his powerful yet emotion laden (almost stainless) voice caught the ears of the brains at management outfit Chocolate City and a record label “Westside Inc” where he released his debut hit single “Ego”. This brought him instant success and then critic acclaim followed. His pitch perfect vocal ability on the song brought him accolades amongst which are “Best new artiste ” at the Nigerian Music Awards in London, two Nominations at the Hip Hop World Awards 2006. He went .. work on the album titled “i no dey shame”. This saw him engaging the services of seasoned producers like Cobhams, Rymzo, Don Jazzy, M I and Jesse jags. He also had sultry voiced Ego Ogbaro of the ‘Never far Away” fame bless the track “come sun come rain”. Wonderful vocalists like Nike Laoye and Lindsey were on hand to put class to an album that’s unique. In December 2007, he released the second single “i no dey shame” and its airplay is increasing by the day. Including the video on major TV stations. In May 2008 at the Nigerian music awards he was presented with the Voice of the year award. Djinee can be said to possess an arresting voice that defies every law of music. He is your modern day African man who’s passionate about his art.
